Denise Eileen Ward

January 13, 1960 - January 14, 2022

Denise Eileen Ward, 62, Denver, CO passed away on January 14, 2022 at home. She was born January 13, 1960 in Boulder, CO. "Neicy" was raised on a farm outside of Louisville, CO. Although Neicy didn't have the typical capacity for walk, talk and vision, she had a highly sensitized capacity for love, hearing and happiness. Her parents and siblings made her an integral part of family, friends, church and community. Her parents carried her to all social events, speaking and singing to her continually, and Neicy responded with delighted smiles and clapping her hands.

At eight years old, Neicy moved into Ridge Home. Although it was a difficult decision, Neicy's parents found that they were no longer able to provide the care and therapy that was needed. They visited often and brought friends and relatives to see her there.  When Ridge Home was closed, Neicy was moved into the loving care of Annie Henry for many years. In 2013 Neicy then moved to the Boateng's home where she continued to receive love and care.

One day after her 62nd birthday and coincidentally exactly 20 years after the death of her father -- Neicy passed away peacefully, cause of death unknown. She was happy and "singing" in the afternoon of her death. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit and playful charm. She is survived by her brother Gary in Platteville, CO, sister Kathryn in Westminster, CO and sister Debbie in Princeton, ID. Neicy is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Neicy is preceded in death by her parents Warren and Lucille Ward and her oldest brother, David Ward.

Gratitude from family goes out to Comfort and Eric Boateng and their daughters for the last nine years of loving care in their home. Thanks also goes to the facilitation of her care through the Colorado Department of Human Services and Choice Living for many therapeutic interactions, personal care and attention. Family gives a special thank you to Donna Smith who has been Neicy's wonderful case manager for decades.

A memorial tree will be planted in her name on her brother's farm. Donations can be sent to: Kathryn Lervick, 3686 W. 100th Ave., Westminster, CO 80031.
