Helen Hernandez

April 15, 1944 - December 31, 2020

On Thursday, December 31, 2020, Helen Hernandez, loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her father, Augustine, and her mother, Flora as well as her older brother, Augustine Junior. Helen is survived by her five children, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren who will all miss her greatly alongside her four sisters (Inez, Dolores, Lindy, Trini) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen was born on April 15, 1944 in Winslow, AZ to Augustine and Flora Hernandez. She was a mother of five to Richard (Lauren) Jaramillo, Melanie Montoya, Michelle Jaramillo, Yancy Jaramillo and Artamisa Gephart. Throughout her life, Helen was most well-known for the relationships she had with others.  At a moment’s notice, she was always willing to lend a hand, even if it meant sacrificing her own needs for others. She was a hard-working and generous person who accepted everyone with unconditional love and lived her life the way that she desired.

Helen’s love for cooking, television and movies brought her family together and created many cherished memories of quality time spent together.  Spending time with family and friends was Helen’s most beloved past time, especially when it came to her grandchildren who would always join her to share a good movie or TV show. Helen had a light in her that would brighten up a room when she walked in and will forever be remembered as a kind, loving, and caring person by everyone who had the opportunity to know her.

To honor her life, a funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2020 at the Avenidas Funeral Chapel in Avondale, AZ at 8am followed by a mass at St. Mathews Catholic Church on 19th Ave in Phoenix, AZ at 11am.
