Donald "Donnie" Joseph Hogan, Jr. of San Francisco, CA passed away at his residence on November 1, 2021.
Donnie was born in Downey, CA on January 23, 1969 to Donald Joseph Hogan, Sr. and Cheryl Lorraine Ansley Hogan. He attended Menlo Atherton High School, graduating in 1987. He was a proud member of the marching and jazz bands located at Menlo Atherton High School. He was a gifted salesman and applied that skill to create a robust livelihood throughout his adult life.
Donnie was an art enthusiast and loved the theater. He was also heavily involved with the Dickens Festival held in San Francisco each year. In his youth he followed the Grateful Dead around, and proudly wore the Dead Head nickname like a badge of honor. He was deeply involved in AIDS advocacy during the early 90's, and at a time when AIDS was still stigmatized. He helped with many fundraising events for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and Ronald McDonald House, as well as numerous LGBTQ causes. Donnie was a kind soul and always there for those who needed him. He had a zest for life and could make you laugh, even during the darkest times. Everyone was a friend to Donnie...he never met a soul that was a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hogan, as well as many other loved ones. He was a loving son, brother, and husband and is survived by his husband, Henry Kyaw That Aung, mother, Cheryl Hogan, sister, Shannon Wilkinson and her husband Roger Wilkinson, brother, Nikolai Grant and his wife Shannon Grant. Donnie found being an uncle one his greatest joys and is survived by nieces Alyssa, Isabella, and Lena May, nephews Durell, Oliver, Max and Emerson, great-nephews Maverick and Lincoln, and great-niece Hayden. Donnie leaves behind many others who loved him, including aunts, uncles, cousins and a large circle of friends both old and new.
