Mathieu Henri Rios-Tulloch

September 30, 1984 - January 23, 2022

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Mathieu Henri Rios-Tulloch, 37, of Tucson, Arizona. Mat has been a staple of kindness in his community and could always be relied upon to bring joy to others with his tacit yet direct sarcasm. Our community lost Mathieu on Sunday, January 23rd, 2022.

Mat was born on September 30th, 1984, to Ralph Rios and Terri Tulloch in Tucson, Arizona. As quickly as Mat learned to walk, he learned to play and fell in love with music. Even as early as elementary school Mat pushed to play saxophone so long as he could physically hold the instrument. Not long after, Mat’s love grew with guitar as he was able to play Yellowcard and The Offspring by ear. Mat’s love of music was driven by an underlying desire to be with and help people. After Mat graduated from Sahuaro High School in 2004, he went on to study at Pima Community College and later received his EMT license.

While spending a profession moving around and finding new ways to experience life with people, Mat was excited to be building a career in the restaurant industry. Although Mat continued to foster his passion as a singer and songwriter, he developed a second passion for cooking and finding new flavors for his friends and family. Mat has spent a lifetime sharing all his love and passion with everyone.

Mat is a part of a large family who will deeply miss how predictably he would poke fun at everything and always bring a laugh when it was needed most. Mat is survived by three sisters, Lisa Sorrell and husband Miles, Nichole Rios Ransom and Robert Barone, and Lyla Tulloch; two brothers Paul Rios and wife Dionne, and Austin Rios and wife Elizabeth; eleven nieces and nephews, Raychel Rosas, David Rios, Sarra Rios, Joseph Martinez, Jayson Bates, Morgan Bishop, Becca Ransom, Colton Ransom, Cloud Sorrell, Gavin Rios, and Claire Rios; and his parents Ralph Rios and Terri Tulloch.

All who wish to contribute are invited to help donate to his funeral services at the link below. The family is deeply grateful for your love and generosity.

Lindsay Daley I can't believe you're gone Matt. From the time we met I can't recall ever having a bad time, a cross word, or an argument or unpleasantness. You had a way of being respectful & cordial even during disagreements. Every time we hung out you were smiling, funny, & optimistic; often the bright spot in the room. It was a joy to work with you on the few musical projects we did & I regret not getting to play on more of them. Moreover, I hate the distance that adult life puts between friends. Your passing is absolutely a call to cherish & connect with our friends & acquaintances often & without inhibition; I am sorry that I let so much time go between catching up. I hope heaven is full of delicious foods you love and plenty of guitars & people to collaborate with. You are sorely missed and gone too soon.

Dan Perron Mathieu, you are an amazing young man! So blessed you are my nephew! You will forever be in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers! The unconditional love you shared with your dog Bella and cat Mr. Butters will forever touch our hearts. There is no greater love than the love of an animal. They too know what love and companionship is. I hope one day Bella and Mr. Butters will join you at heaven's gate, but hope for now they live their life together in a loving home with you as their spiritual guide to watch over them. We are so taken and moved by how you touched everyone with your heart, your compassion for life, your love of music and cooking. You saw the beauty in life's simplest things through god's creatures, sunsets, sunrises, and just spending valuable time with your dog Bella and cat Mr. Butters. You are an inspiration to us and will forever be remembered by everyone your heart touched. Love you, Beth and Dan Perron. Your Aunt and Uncle in Washington state with our dogs Legend, Sophie, and Mason... woof woof woof.

Kate Kinsey Lucas We love you Mat!! Always have, always will & it will never stop. You are the animal whisperer w an exceptional gift of being always true to yourself while blessing us in the world w your soulful flair infused into everything: your relationships, your music, your poetry, your good cooking. I will always Advocate that your pets stay together and be available to take them both including if anything happens hindering any of the current plans for each. I'd like to think you are singing and playing your guitar on the other side, appointed by God Himself, to hang out & love on all the departed pets from this world... Mine sure love you, as I did! Please give Abby an extra kiss for me. They will know you as family. We will laugh at shared memories honoring you as this lifts you up, still in love. I'm sure Uncle Mike has greeted you. Ask him about how he came through to me through a patient to let me know he still loves us, sees us from the other side, as I am sure you now do, too. I am so elated that you are aware of so much more, beyond our control or wishes, than we can even comprehend here! As you were on loan to us, by God, it is so clear you finished an exceptional job and impacted many even by your unfair departure, so young. You did great, Mat! I am mostly going to miss your authenticity & kind heart, especially to animals. Til we meet again... We love you! ♥️♥️♥️
