Josephine Marie Frydenlund (nee Calabrese) passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2022. She was born in San Francisco on August 29, 1933 to Frank and Bridgett Calabrese.
Josephine grew up in San Francisco with her two younger siblings, Gaetana and Raymond, and her cousin, Ruth. She met her husband Richard Frydenlund at Balboa High School in San Francisco, and raised their four young children in San Bruno from the mid-1950's to early 1960's, which were some of the happiest years of her life. The family moved to the town of Woodacre in Marin County in 1963. She spent 50 years living in Marin County (Woodacre and Novato) where she worked for many years in the banking and mortgage industry.
Josephine will be remembered for her love of traveling to Hawaii, for her creativity with sewing and crafting, for always enjoying a game of bingo, for her pride in her Italian and Sicilian heritage and her determination to learn Italian again in her later years, and especially for adoring being “Nonni” to her grandchildren. She was a very sweet and kind soul, always thinking of others before herself.
She will be dearly missed by her son Mark, daughter Vickie (Daniel Alvarez), daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Marissa, Amelia, and Jonah, sister Gaetana (Raymond) Ardito, brother Raymond (Gail) Calabrese, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her cousin Ruth, her ex-husband Richard, and her sons Richard and Greg. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Watermark by the Bay (formerly Bayside Park) where she resided for the last 9 years.
Forever in our hearts, may you rest in eternal peace.
