Romuald Magryta of Plymouth, Massachusetts passed away with his loving wife by his side
on Wednesday April 27th 2022. He was 86 years old.
Romuald was born in Sitno, Poland in 1936, the son of Franciszka and Karol Magryta. He was the youngest of four children with his three sisters; Boleslawa of Toronto, Canada, Halina and Danuta of Perth Amboy, NJ preceding him in death.
He immigrated to the United States via New Orleans in 1951 with two of his sisters and his parents. They eventually settled in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to begin their new life in the United States.
Romuald had missed over 5 years of primary education during World War II and did not speak English upon arriving to the U.S. leaving him unprepared to succeed in school. But, succeed he did. Through hard work and dedication, Romuald graduated from high school in Perth Amboy followed by four years of service as a Military Policeman Airman First Class in the United States Air Force. Armed with GI bill money and dedication, he completed an Electronics degree at the RCA Institutes in New York City before working tirelessly to achieve a Bachelor of Arts in Math Cum Laude at Marist College. Following, he was hired by IBM as a computer scientist which allowed him to further his studies and pursue two masters degrees; Computer Science from Marist College and Master of Science from Syracuse University.
Being set with a career, Romuald married Maria Sawicka in 1964. They had three children together: Edward 1965, Urszula 1968 and Christopher 1970. They lived in Poughkeepsie, New York until 2020 when they relocated to Plymouth, Massachusetts to be closer to their daughter Urszula. He worked at IBM for 30 years before retiring in 1992 achieving a patent in Computer Systems Logical Hierarchy Mapping.
Romuald was a lover of conversation, politics, history, stock markets and people. He was an extrovert always looking for a smiling face to connect with. He believed that God and the American Constitution were the unbending guideposts from which to make choices in life. He lived by God’s word and believed that the United States was the greatest place on Earth. Last Thanksgiving, with his whole family present, he related the ideal that he, a child who was penniless and without language competency, could rise up in this country and be successful at work, church and with his family. He was a devout Roman Catholic and unbelievably proud of his Polish heritage, but even more grateful to the United States of America.
As the years progressed, he spent his 30 years after retirement intently watching the stock market and loving his six grandchildren. Julie, Aleksander, Adam, Magdalena, Thomas and Isabella were his happiness generators. They were ground zero for his whole dream of the greatness of America. He had a goal that they would outperform him and their parents while enjoying the fruits of this great nation.
His other favorite pastimes were dancing, reading, playing chess and cards, especially Bridge and Tysiac with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Maria Magryta. His children and their spouses: Edward and Lynn Magryta, Urszula and Piotr Lazowski, Christopher and Nicole Magryta. His grandchildren:
Julie Magryta, Aleksander Lazowski, Adam Lazowski, Magdalena Lazowski, Thomas Magryta and Isabella Magryta.
He will be profoundly missed, especially his smile, gentle energy, sharp mind and generous spirit.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 7th at 11:30AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown PA 18901 in the St. Anne's Chapel, followed by Romuald’s Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30PM. (St. Anne's Chapel: follow the white direction signs when entering the Shrine grounds), Interment will immediately follow the Mass on cemetery grounds.
