Our beloved mother Mary L. Hairston was called home to be with our Lord May 8, 2022.
Mary was born July 13, 1940, in Galion, Alabama to the late Sam and Mary L. Mullen
She received Christ at an early age and joined Evening Star Baptist Church in Galion, AL.
Her early education was in Alabama school system, graduating from U.S. Jones High in Demopolis in 1959. After graduating, she relocated to Cleveland, OH and attended cosmetology school.
In Cleveland, OH, she met and married Frederick M. Scurry and from this union three children were born.
She was a member of St. Theresa Holiness Church; an active member of the usher board until her health prevented her from participating.
She was employed by Cleveland Municipal School District for 25 years, retiring as a bus driver in 1992.
Mary was an avid bowler and won several trophies through the years. She loved crocheting and playing games on the computer. She was quiet, easy going and loved her family. She always wanted the best for her family. She loved spending time with them and helping them whenever she could. Her loving nature touched so many lives.
Mary now resides in heaven and joins that heavenly band which includes: husbands Frederick M Scurry and Garland Hairston; daughter, Wanda M Scurry, siblings: Jake Mullen, Sam Mullen Jr., G.T. Mullen, and Frances Mullen
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Jacqueline M. Scurry (William) (Cleveland, OH, son Frederick A. Scurry (Robin) Cleveland OH, stepson Garland Hairston (Vivian) Cleveland Heights, OH, and stepson Shannon Hairston New Orleans, LA. Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Four brothers: Fleming Mullen, Springfield, NY, Herbert (Earnestine) Mullen Demopolis, AL, Jerome Mullen Rosedale, Willie (Betty) Mullen Mt Pleasant, IA , two sisters: Minnie Scott (Demopolis) AL, Mabel Mullen Tuscaloosa, AL.
