Sylvia “Toin” Gaitan (nee Jones) was born March 4th, 1936 in Curepe, Trinidad & Tobago to the late Charles and Marie Jones. She was the second of four girls.
After graduating from St. Joseph’s Girls’ RC School, Sylvia worked as a housekeeper as well as in a snack shop. On April 29, 1956, she married the late Henry Gaitan with whom she had six wonderful children.
In 1989, Sylvia moved to the United States with her youngest son, Learie where she worked for many years as a babysitter. She was a devoted member of the Cleveland Church of Christ. Sylvia was the matriarch of the Gaitan family and the things held closest to her heart were her papa God, her dearly-missed parents, her loving children and her many grandkids.
Sylvia will forever be in the hearts of her six children Clearie Gaitan (Fay), Terry Gaitan, Gail Gaitan, Dianne Gaitan, Cherryann Gaitan and Learie Gaitan (Mandy); her sister Glenda Headley (Clifford); her 17 grandchildren: Melenie, Genavie, Tamala, Ishmel, Segel, Kareen, Laticia, Roquel, Tanica, Joshua, Ashley, Tavarez, Cleofuss, Octavia, Alexis, Xavier and Travin; 22 great grandchildren a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and many other relatives.
Sylvia was proceeded in death by her parents, two of her sisters Merle Williams and Joyce Garcia and two of her grandchildren Shawn and Michelle Nicholson.
