James Marlow Grose, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2024, at the age of 69. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, James was a man of many talents and a heart full of love. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl Grose; three daughters; one son; and two sons-in-law. He was a proud grandfather to six grandsons and three granddaughters, and he cherished his role as a great-grandfather to three great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Kulczar, and brother-in-law, Larry Sr.
James and Cheryl enjoyed their retirement in Ajo, AZ, where they especially loved attending Ajo High School Red Raiders football games, cheering on the team with enthusiasm. Known for his artistic spirit and passion for nature, James cherished daily walks with Cheryl. He was actively involved in his community, supporting local law enforcement anonymously by covering the tab for coffee and meals, and participating in initiatives to keep the Ajo community beautiful. James was also a dedicated member of the Friends of the Library and the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteer, demonstrating his commitment to education and community service. Recently, he was accepted into the local Elks Lodge.
On Thanksgiving Day, his family gathered to celebrate his life and share cherished memories. Although there was an empty chair at the table, his spirit was always present and will continue to be felt. James had a special love for pumpkin pie, and in his honor, his daughter Stacy baked a fresh pumpkin pie, inviting everyone to send a cheer to him with every bite.
James Marlow Grose will forever be remembered as the love of Cheryl's life, a man who showed a love that transcended words. His legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private family gathering was held to honor James’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ajo Volunteer Fire Department in his memory.
