Charles Lee Maynard, 87 of Monroe VA, passed away suddenly on March 10, 2025, at the Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland, Florida.
Born March 1, 1938, in Charleston, West Virginia. Charles was adopted at a young age by Okey and Kathleen Maynard. He spent much of his youth visiting his grandparents in Monroe, Virginia where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Ella Mae Ware on September 6, 1955.
Charles was an avid reader and spent his life learning. He loved fishing and spending time with his family. The past few years, he enjoyed spending the winter months in Auburndale, FL enjoying the warmer weather.
Over sixty years after his adoption, Charles learned his last name at birth was Martin. He was able to find his birth family, unfortunately his birth mother, Pansy Elaine Martin, had already passed away. The Martin family welcomed Charles Lee, as they called him, with open arms. He and Ella took many trips to get to know his aunts, uncles and cousins. They told him many stories about his mother and how much she loved him and had always wanted to reunite with him.
Preceded in death by his wife Ella Ware Maynard, son Timothy Maynard, grandson Kevin Primm, great-grandchildren McKenna May and Barrett Sites.
Charles is survived by a large loving family including Marsha Moore, three daughters, Cheryl Chumney (Terry), Patty Watts (Douglas), Linda Primm (James), four sons, James (Synda), Mark (Valerie), John (Melissa), David (Michelle), daughter-in-law Pamela Maynard, twenty-two grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, with two more great-grandchildren due this summer, and one great-great-grandchild.
