Maurice Angelo Robinson, affectionately known as Mickey to his mother and Mick to his friends, passed away peacefully in San Francisco, CA on April 8, 2026, at the age of 67. Born in Charlottesville, Virginia on September 12, 1958 to Atlas and Maurice Robinson, Mick embodied kindness, humor, and compassion, and left an indelible mark on those fortunate to know him. Mick was a devoted son to his mother, who survives him along with his cherished uncle, aunt, and cousins. He was also a lover of dogs, especially his beloved Pupples. Mick was also an avid traveler, finding great joy in exploring the world.
Mick’s story as a long-term survivor of HIV was told in the documentary film Last Men Standing. He found his calling as a peer counselor, working with individuals struggling with substance abuse. Through his broader advocacy, he helped many other HIV positive people. His compassion and infectious sense of humor brought hope and healing to many, and his quick wit and friendly demeanor endeared him to everyone he met.
Mick's family and friends wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of San Francisco General Hospital. During his final days, their compassionate care provided him and his loved ones comfort and dignity.
Though Mick has left this realm, his spirit will continue to inspire and warm those who knew him. In our hearts, his laughter echoes, and his kindness shines brightly, a testament to a life filled with love and generosity.
