Onofre Garza, well known as JR of San Marcos, CA, completed his journey here on earth and went to meet his creator on May 4, 2026. He passed away at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, CA.
JR was born in Lansing, MI, on August 18, 1967, to Onofre Garza and Rebecca Garza. He graduated from Portales High School in Portales, NM, and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM, where he studied Criminal Justice. He dreamed of becoming a motorcycle highway patrol officer. He resettled in California during his early 20s, where he began working and learning various construction trades. JR showed an incredible drive that set him apart and led him to build something remarkable - founding JRG Services in 2008 as the sole owner/President. He turned it into a success story that many only dream of writing.
JR believed in people, invested in them, and made sure that his success was never his alone. He brought many others along for the wild ride. There was a magnetism to him that filled every room he entered. His voice a little louder, his laugh a little bolder, and his joy completely contagious. He never left a place without making a friend, and he never met a person he wasn’t willing to lift up. JR was above all else a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many. He instilled in others the belief that age doesn’t define greatness and that dreams can be pursued fearlessly at any stage of life. JR enjoyed spending time with family, his grandchildren, playing golf, attending many Cars & Coffee shows, traveling, playing the piano, and taking leisure drives in the one car he loved – his Porsche.
He was raised in the Christian faith and continued to have a deep faith in God. His greatest business achievement was his company, JRG Services. He was mentioned in a Businessmen of San Diego magazine for his work at the airport. He was also very active in supporting Casa de Amparo in San Marcos, CA, as well as many other organizations. He participated in numerous fundraising golf tournaments. His work will be everlasting in the numerous buildings, hotels, SD airport, and homes he helped construct and remodel throughout southern San Diego, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas.
JR is survived by his spouse, Dulce Lopez. Children: Gavin Garza and Savannah (Alex) Garza Mejia. Grandchildren Azul and Violetta Mejia Garza. Mother: Rebecca (Tom) Weisser. Sisters: Rachel (Dan) Avila, Eloisa Garza, Melissa Garza, and Graciela Garza. Nephews and Nieces: Daniel Jr (Priscilla) Avila, Nathaniel (Jacquelin) Avila, Erin (Jake) Pitts, Joshua (Leah) Fisher, Dylan Haehnel, Jacob and Antonio Garza, Krystal Snyder, Keisha (Juan) Snyder-Castillo. JR will be greatly remembered by numerous extended family, friends, and business associates. His legacy and fullness of life will never be forgotten. Thank you, JR, for being exactly who you were, without apology or reservation.
